Core Principles
Four foundational principles behavior analysts use to interpret and apply every standard below.
1. Benefit Others
Maximize benefit and avoid harm: protect clients' welfare and rights first, watch for and resolve conflicts of interest, and weigh the short- and long-term effects of your work on everyone involved.
2. Treat Others with Compassion, Dignity, and Respect
Treat everyone equitably regardless of personal characteristics, protect their privacy and confidentiality, and support clients' right to make informed choices about their own services.
3. Behave with Integrity
Be honest and trustworthy, follow through on your obligations, stay accountable for your own and your supervisees' work, and help uphold the Code within the professional community.
4. Ensure Their Competence
Practice only within your scope, keep your knowledge of ABA current, understand the risks of pseudoscience and unproven interventions, and keep building your cultural responsiveness.
